BlackRock Rebuilding Day!

Today, over 40 volunteers from BlackRock's Seattle office are out at the North Seattle Boys & Girls Club (the oldest club in the state!) helping with numerous repairs including remodeling the boys, girls, and ADA bathroom, building storage shelving and moving a storage room, cleaning, creating a soundproof room for a teen recording studio, painting, yardwork, replacing appliances, and much more!  Big thank you to Project Leaders Britta Jones and Kelly Lems for leading the efforts, and also to Joan Caldon with the Boys & Girls Club for all her help in planning for the day!

A few photos to start the day- more to come!

RTS Energizer: Rich Tarter, Atkinson Construction

"Rich Tarter is Atkinson Construction's nominee for the RTS Energizer Award. A 40 year veteran of heavy civil construction primarily with Atkinson, Rich arrived just after 7 AM on Saturday and worked diligently for more than 13 hours on his hands and knees installing new flooring in the kitchen. After most of the 25-30 person crew had dispersed for the day, Rich continued his work cleaning the kitchen floor and moving the refrigerator and furniture back to their pre-project locations. At 8:30 PM, Rich was still loading garbage and construction waste into the back of his pick-up to haul off-site. Rich worked hard from start to finish despite the fact that he was neither the event coordinator nor a team lead. His hard work and dedication proved crucial to our completion within the confines of one day."

Great work, Rich!

REBUILDING TOGETHER AND LOWE'S BUILD A HEALTHY NEIGHBORHOOD FOR PHILADELPHIA

WASHINGTON DC - MAY 15 2012 - Rebuilding Together, in partnership with the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation and  Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, announced plans today for Rebuilding Together's Building a Healthy Neighborhood project in the Overbrook neighborhood in Philadelphia.

Rebuilding Together's Building a Healthy Neighborhood project will recruit hundreds of volunteers, local leaders and officials to rehabilitate nearly 30 homes in the Overbrook neighborhood June 14 - 16. The work will address local families' critical needs, including major interior and exterior rehabilitations, accessibility modifications and energy efficient upgrades. The volunteers will also participate in community clean-up and the installation of a new playground at the Overbook Environmental Education Center in partnership with Carter Oosterhouse's charity Carter's Kids.

The Building a Healthy Neighborhood mission is to demonstrate the positive effects of home and neighborhood revitalization on the overall health of homeowners, families and communities.

"Rebuilding Together's core belief that everyone deserves a safe and healthy home is brought to actualization through incredible rebuilding initiatives like Building a Healthy Neighborhood, and the sponsors and volunteers who support our work," said Gary A. Officer, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "The work we do is absolutely essential to the continued sustainability of America's communities, and we are proud to work in Philadelphia to ensure that its neighborhoods remain healthy and viable."

"Creating safe and healthy living environments in the homes impacted by the Building a Healthy Neighborhood project helps bring vitality to families, neighborhoods and communities," said Marshall Croom, chairman of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation.  "Our Lowe's Heroes network of employee volunteers will be hard at work with community volunteers in Philadelphia to help make a difference for the families of Overbrook."

Volunteers from Lowe's, Wells Fargo, Citrin Cooperman, Rebuilding Together's CapacityCorps alumni, and HGTV and DIY Network, will revitalize the Overbrook neighborhood and community center, as part of Rebuilding Together's mission to provide a safe and healthy home for every person.
