RTS Energizer: Scott Stainer, KPFF

"Scott's input and knowledge was indispensable in the planning and execution of project day and he stayed until long after most people had left. Throughout the day Scott maintained a positive attitude that could not be dampened by even the heaviest rain. Regardless of what the task was, Scott was there whether it was demolition, yard work, window replacement, or even moving the world's oldest refrigerator. He not only shared his knowledge and experience but also provided a variety of his personal equipment which helped simplify many of the critical tasks that day. Scott's spirit and dedication to helping others is simply a standard to which we should all aspire to."

Great work, Scott!

RTS top supporters celebrate the fiscal year at the Inaugural Leadership Givers Appreciation Event

On June 19, 2012, over 30 donors of Rebuilding Together Seattle gathered at Sand Point Country Club for the Inaugural RTS Leadership Givers Appreciation Event.  In an effort to recognize Rebuilding Together Seattle's top Annual Giving Campaign donors (Leadership Givers), RTS took an opportunity to thank attendees, celebrate a successful 2011-2012 fiscal year, and share about the organization's plans for the next three years.

RTS sends our thanks to Swash Press for donating our lovely invitations, to Sand Point Country Club for hosting our event, and to all of our Annual Giving Campaign donors this year.  Thank you for making our mission possible!

RTS welcomes Summer Interns, Jenny and Evelina!

This Summer, RTS is pleased to welcome two new interns to our team!  Jenny Whelan (a current student at the University of Washington) will stay with us through early October, and Evelina Miropolsky (a 2012 Whitman College graduate) will join forces until late September, when she takes off for an adventure in France!

Let’s hear more about these fantastic women…

MEET JENNY!

Where do you go to school?  What is your major, and what are some of your future career aspirations?

I am currently an incoming junior at the University of Washington. I am studying Sociology with a focus in Diversity, and am supplementing that with a Certificate in Sales through the Foster School of Business. Studying Sociology has brought out my passion for work in the social sphere, so I would love to pursue a career in the business or marketing side of a nonprofit organization. I also love kids, so I have always considered the possibility of teaching as a career choice.

How did you hear about Rebuilding Together Seattle and the internship position?

I heard about this position at Rebuilding Together Seattle through a job listing site. I am so glad I did, or I would never know the wonderful experience of working with such a great organization!

Why do you believe in the mission of Rebuilding Together Seattle?

I believe in the mission of RTS because I believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity in life. Since not everyone is granted this equality from birth, it is the responsibility of organizations such as this one to work hard to give everyone they can a chance at a better life. That's the great thing about RTS: it not only works to better the situation of low income homeowners in Seattle, but empowers the entire community to assist in their efforts.

What are you excited about the most in regard to your internship position with RTS?

During my time at RTS, I know that I will not only gain experience that will enrich my future career, but I will also be doing fulfilling work that may better the lives of others.  I cannot wait to work alongside the amazing staff here and know that the work I'm doing will change someone's life for the better.

Tell us a bit about yourself – what are some of your interests outside of school and work?

I am in a sorority at the University of Washington in which I currently serve on the Executive Board and have made irreplaceable friends. I enjoy staying active and being outdoors, volunteering occasionally, and spending time with my friends and family. I also like to read whenever I have the chance. I would love to study abroad in Europe this year and want to see places and people all over the world!

MEET EVELINA!

Where do you go to school?  What is your major, and what are some of your future career aspirations?

I graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA this May with a degree in Psychology and a minor in French.  Ideally, I would be very interested in doing something either in the fields of Social Work, Counseling, or Education.  I have worked extensively with young children, but this fall I will be teaching English in France through a fellowship for 7 months and will get my first flavor of working with middle and high school students!

How did you hear about Rebuilding Together Seattle and the internship position?

My college has an awesome listserv for jobs and internships and RTS had posted that they were seeking applicants for their summer internship.

Why do you believe in the mission of Rebuilding Together Seattle?

As I am learning every day, one of the greatest things about RTS is that the office works so closely with actual homeowners.  As a people person, this aspect of the internship is a huge plus for me.  I love that RTS empowers and aids people to live in independence, warmth, and safety.

What are you excited about the most in regard to your internship position with RTS?

I’m thrilled to be gaining experience working in the field of non-profits, working in a small, close-knit group in the office, and gaining new skills daily!

Tell us a bit about yourself – what are some of your interests outside of school and work?

I’m a total Francophile.  I spent the spring semester of my junior year of college living and studying in Paris, and can’t wait to go back.  I also love art history, baking (my specialty are Earl Grey cupcakes with lemon-honey butter cream), film, felines, and making a fool of myself on the dance floor.

THANK YOU, JENNY AND EVELINA!  We're happy to have you at RTS!
