Volunteers to restore home of deserving homeowner in South Seattle

Seattle, WA – On June 6, 7, and 8 (from approximately 8 AM to 4 PM), Rebuilding Together Seattle (www.rtseattle.org) will partner with roughly 60 volunteers from the New Home Council (NHC) to clean, rebuild, and repair the home of a elderly and disabled homeowner, Mary, living in South Seattle.  In an effort to help others live independently in warmth and safety, Rebuilding Together Seattle focuses on providing low-income homes and non-profit facilities with critical repairs, modifications and energy-efficient upgrades at no cost to the individuals served.

Volunteers will be helping 77 year-old Mary Anderson-Taggart and her grandson who are in need of home repairs. Mary raised her three grandchildren and worked for years cleaning homes, but is now financially unable to care for her own home, and physically unable due to two knee surgeries and chronic back issues.  Over the course of 3 days, volunteers from New Home Council will replace all carpeting in the home, repair both the rear and front porch, replace the electric range and dishwasher, install new cabinets, build a handrail to the basement, replace a broken door, complete electrical work, repair the fence, paint the interior, remove clutter, and carry out yard work.

For more information on the New Home Council Rebuilding Day through Rebuilding Together Seattle, please email mthirlby@rtseattle.org or call (206) 682-1231 or (206) 992-5512 on June 6th, 7th or 8th. Project address: 807 24th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144.  This event will offer exceptional visuals and ample opportunity for interviews; all interested media are encouraged to contact RTS for more details.
