50 volunteers to transform home of disabled couple living in West Seattle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seattle, WA – On Saturday, April 14, from 8 am to 4 pm, Rebuilding Together Seattle (www.rtseattle.org) will partner with 50 volunteers from Safeway to clean, rebuild and repair the home of a disabled man and his wife living in West Seattle. In an effort to help others live independently in warmth and safety, Rebuilding Together Seattle focuses on providing low-income homes and non-profit facilities with critical repairs, modifications and energy-efficient upgrades at no cost to the individuals served.

Safeway, the project Major Sponsor, will be helping Shawn and Katy, a middle aged couple living in West Seattle. Shawn suffers from multiple sclerosis and ankylosing spondylitis which limits his mobility and consequently, his ability to work. His wife, Katy, is a teacher’s aide in special need classrooms at an elementary school in the Seattle School District. Between work and taking care of Shawn, Katy finds it difficult to maintain their home. On April 14, volunteers will be installing a new stove and range hood, updating the bathtub to a shower, installing grab bars and hand rails, replacing kitchen flooring, repairing and staining the back deck, repairing the fence, painting several rooms, organizing and removing clutter, and completing yard work.
